One of Many Talents

Posted on July 8, 2010

Photography is my passion.  I love doing almost anything connected to it.  However, I do have many other talents too ;) .  One of them is my second love–NUTRITION.  Dietarily I am vegan and I strongly believe in the benefits of a plant based diet.  Want to know why?  Find out all about it HERE.  So, I believe in it, promote it and support it.

Each year our church, Kelso Church of Truth, hosts a food booth at the local Independence Day celebration fare.  We sell RUSSIAN food.  This year we decided to add a little OOMPH to our offerings–we spearheaded a novelty in Longview, WA–introducing Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free options to the population that flocked to the lake Sacajawea to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day. Unheard of? Yes, in Longview! Here the obesity rates are reaching 80% and veganism is still widely unheard of and is perceived as a cult rather than a dietary lifestyle.

We even offered GREEN SMOOTHIESthis year!  Can you believe that?  Talking about novelties… I offered samples to anyone who would take one [if I had time for it, as we served literally THOUSANDS of people over the 3 days].  Green Smoothies were a hit!  I even had repeat customers.

We also offered veggie wraps and a carrot salad–both amazingly delicious.  And now the Russian Food booth will be known not for its delicious Russian offerings but as a pioneer of health food in Longview at the celebration of the 4th of July, which I count as a great victory.

Here are a few shots from our fun filled weekend made up of long days [I think I averaged 13-14+ hrs of working the booth every day].

My crazy lovely ;) husband. He was such a trooper–he worked his “day” job AND stopped by to help us too.  My sister [the head huncho in charge] made him wear a little beard net… tee-hee ;) .

On the third day we all were a little tired, but got a few minute break [bottom left image] while watching fireworks. [don't you love that picture? ;) ]

Now that this part of our year is over I am heading into a busy summer season–weddings and more weddings are on my books.  I can’t wait to shoot the first one this weekend!  Stay tuned for gorgeous images!
