I am always grateful to be living in the day and age of the progress we are experiencing in the world of technology. Today I am grateful for the miracle of Photoshop. As I mentioned before, I am working on my Mom’s memoirs and am currently in the last stages of doing it. I am restoring old family photographs, that are more precious than gold to me.
Here is a before and after. The BEFORE was not too horribly damaged, but the AFTER really speaks for itself.

(My Dad is all the way to the left, by the barn; Mom is in the bottom row, second from the right, with my brother in her arms; Grandma is in the second row, first from the right, and Grandpa is right above her; my oldest sister is the adorable girl that is standing in the first row.)

Today is Thanksgiving. It is a great day to celebrate life. There are so many things I am grateful for this year, and none of them are turkey, stuffing or apple pie. I am truly grateful to live in a free country where we can freely worship our awesome God. I am grateful to have been born into the most wonderful family, with the most awesome parents. I am grateful for my siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. I am grateful that I had never gone hungry to bed. I am grateful for our health. I am grateful that I am free to dream. And, most of all, this year, I am grateful that I am married to the greatest man in the world. He is awesome in so many ways. He shows his love for me in every way possible. I am not going to go into detail, but it will suffice to say that I feel better when I am around him-I feel more complete.

We prepared our Thanksgiving meal together: I was the head chef, and he was my helper, although without him it would have taken me twice as long to make everything. No, we did not have turkey-we are vegan. What we had was: mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, apple pie, and a very non-traditional dish for thanksgiving-sushi. Yes, you read it right-SUSHI! Demetrye watched a video on how to make it today, and today he mastered to make this:

(It was all vegetable, so no animals were harmed:)

I did help him with sushi, but only a little. He did a great job preparing rice, ingredients, rolling and cutting it. He is just so AWESOME! Darling-you are the best gift I could have received in my entire life. I love you.

I moved away from home over 9 years ago. As I was getting older and started my own family I realized more and more the importance of knowing my family history. It is so much easier to plan your future, once you know your past. As a result I had convinced my Mom to start writing her memoirs, which I am currently working on. It has taken us nearly two years: Mom writing, me typing, editing and re-editing, hundreds of hours of phone conversations with Mom, just to get all the necessary details in, and I am now nearing the finish line. It feels great, exhilarating and exciting. I am now on the last part of the project–restoring family pictures.

Our family has always been avid photo takers. At times, when people see my photo collection, they are astonished. I am so grateful that our parents valued the importance of preserving memories by taking photographs. If a picture can say a thousand words, then I feel like I am a millionaire. As I am restoring family photographs I experience such a vast range of emotions: anything from smiles to tears. All this reminds me that what I and other photographers do is SO important. Most things that we spend money on, at times without thinking, parish, but photographs last generations. They live to tell us of our past and, hopefully, not only brighten our days, but propel us to our future.

Here is a freshly restored shot of my three oldest siblings. Don’t they look like doll babies?

Demetrye and I had taken a few days off work, to spend time with each other and do… absolutely nothing. We have succeeded and enjoyed every single moment of it!!! Now we are back to reality: he is at work, and I won’t see him for another couple of hours. I am already missing him like crazy…

This is one of my favorite photos. I took it a while ago. The bride was getting her make-up done, and I just caught “the moment”.
